Here's What's New in the Fight to Legalize Marijuana

Posted by Ken Loritz on

Here are the latest updates in the fight to legalize marijuana all over the United States:

In California...

According to a recent poll from the Public Policy Institute of California, 54% of potential California voters said they’d favored the legalization of weed, which was a rise of 3%. It should also be noted that, according to International Business Times, California has the potential to become the country’s largest retail marijuana market with it's already booming medical marijuana industry.

In Michigan...

Michigan’s top Marijuana legalization advocacy group, MILegalize has submitted their paperwork to the Michigan Board of State Canvassers, says The Weed Blog. The board is scheduled to meet on June 11th to discuss placing legalization of marijuana on the November 2016 ballot.

Over in Illinois...

In May, according to The Chicago Tribune, lawmakers voted to decriminalize the possession of small amounts of the marijuana. They also have a medical marijuana program in the early stages of development. These courses of action are similar to those that Alaska, Colorado, and Oregon took before approving the drug for recreational use.

Down in Texas...

The Cannibist tells us that there are currently 11 marijuana reform bills are in the process of being looked at by Legislature, two of which are for the decriminalization of marijuana possession and ending marijuana prohibition in general. Texas is making progress. A recent poll even showed that 58% of Texans are all for the full legalization of marijuana.

In Louisiana...

According to, earlier this year, Louisiana State Representative Dalton Honore filed a bill that would legalize recreational marijuana for adults 21 years and older. If this bill passes Louisiana will be the first state in the South to legalize marijuana.
