What is the Legal Definition of Primary and Secondary Packaging?

The above image shows both the primary packaging (a rigid inner jar) and the secondary packaging (an outer cardboard wrap).


Primary Packaging

The layer of packaging that comes into direct contact with the contents, this could be a clear bag or even a rigid wall container.


Secondary Packaging

Bag or container that surrounds the primary package or group of primary packages. The secondary is used as a case to ship in or used as a means to brand with attractive art and/or copy.
